What we can offer
For more than forty years Catchpole Cellars has followed a very simple principle when it comes to selling wine. Know our clients and exceed their expectations.
This approach has made Catchpole one of the UK's foremost private wine merchants.
As a private wine merchant, we deliver the highest quality wines to our client's doors with a standard of service and quality rarely found these days.
We know all of our clients by name and take the time to understand their individual tastes, budgets and desires before we make any recommendations. That way, we find out what is most important to them before selecting wines that fully match that criteria.
Wine is meant to be enjoyed and we take pride in delivering enjoyment and satisfaction with every case.
It’s such a shame though, that there are so many wines, mass produced in their millions that taste the same each and every vintage, wines in many cases that are quite bland and very often contain a cocktail of additives. They may be fairly cheap but for a couple of pounds more there are some superb and stunning wines available for us all to drink and enjoy.
At Catchpole Cellars we deal with some of the best small growers and producers who are making really special and unique wines. Stunning and unusual wines, quite often from very small family run estates, often going back many generations.
We provide one of our wine merchants to look after you and help you choose the wines you want.
We aim to learn the types of wines you like, to help us suggest new and different wines for you to try in the future.
Bodegas Santalba - Rioja - Spain
Bodegas Santalba was started back in 1964 when Santiago Ijalba purchased prime vineyards in the Rioja Alta, this is the best area in the region and produces the top wines. Since their start they have very much grown and now export to countries all over the world.
Santiago Ijalba and his son Roberto work together to create their magnificent wines at their winery located in Gimileo, next to Haro, in the heart of Rioja Alta and only 40 kilometers from Logroño. Its geographical location, its climate and its soil have determined the uniqueness of this region, its land and its wines, giving it an unmistakable character of its own.
The native variety Tempranillo is the most widely planted in Bodegas Santalba, but they also grow some Garnacha for a few wines and Viura grapes for the white wines.
100% Tempranillo grapes makes this pale, delicate dry rosé. This is very much in the vein of Provence style pink so an incredibly fashionable style and sure to be a new fave.
This is ideal as an aperitif but also pairs nicely with seafood, especially prawns or salmon dishes.
Also made from Tempranillo grapes this soft quaffable red has been lightly oaked in American barrels for just 5 months. This gives it the signature toasty vanilla aroma on the nose. This has smooth tannins and is quite versatile so it can be enjoyed with our without food.
